24K in Lab and Glassware Donated to Northern in Time for Fall Semester

As part of the International Year of Chemistry activities that Los Alamos is sponsoring, several groups in Chemistry Division gathered approximately 150 boxes of excess unused lab glass and plastic ware to donate to Northern New Mexico College in Española. According to Catherine Pacheco, Laboratory Technician and Coordinator at Northern, the donation comes at a particularly useful time, since the College’s materials and supplies budget is down this year. The value of the donated materials is approximately $24,000. The school has recently completed renovations of laboratory space, and the LANL supplies will help to equip it appropriately. The supplies were delivered 9/1/11. The Chemical Diagnostics and Engineering and Nuclear and Radiochemistry groups in C Division donated and boxed the lab ware, and donation logistics were organized with help from Steve Remde from ASM.  The donation is a win-win, since the Laboratory will benefit from the donation by cleaning up laboratory space and avoiding disposal charges.
