Nuclear and Radiochemistry
C-NR provides vital radiochemical and radioanalytical capabilities to a range of programs, including maintenance and stewardship of the nuclear stockpile, nuclear non-proliferation, environmental management, repository validation, and civilian nuclear energy programs.
Researchers in C-NR are working with others at Los Alamos to build a spherical detector for advanced neutron capture experiments (DANCE) that will measure exotic nuclide neutron capture cross sections. The detector will be used to study the synthesis of chemical elements in stars, the burn-up of nuclear waste, and other nuclear processes.
