Countroom
The Nuclear and Radiochemistry Radionuclide Assay Facility, commonly known as the Countroom, performs qualitative and quantitative assay of gamma, beta, and alpha-emitting radionuclides in a variety of matrices and over a wide range of activity levels. The Countroom focuses on high precision fission product measurements and alpha spectrometry.
The Countroom was founded in support of the US Nuclear Testing Program and has a proud heritage dating back nearly 60 years. Countroom customers include Chemistry Division programs, other Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) programs, as well as Department of Energy (DOE) and Department of Defense (DoD) sponsors.
Currently the Countroom is performing analyses for medical radioisotopes, weapons archiving, radionuclide migration, and several national security programs. The Countroom analyzes raw samples from the field, as well as elementally separated samples received from the Nuclear and Radiochemistry team. Typical sample volumes range from point sources to liter sized or larger and can be dirt, filter paper, liquid, or gas samples.
