Chemical Sciences and Engineering
Chemical Sciences and Engineering (CSE) has diverse expertise that it applies to chemical
sciences, instrument development, and engineering to support stockpile stewardship
and federal sponsors in defense, homeland security, intelligence, and energy.
The group provides chemical analysis, materials chemistry and
characterization, high-pressure research, chem-bio threat reduction, and organic
synthesis. Our analytical services team provides legally defensible analytical data
on a wide variety of sample types and constituents and is accredited by the
American Industrial Hygiene Association.
Nanoparticle- and carbon nanotube-based sensor systems are being developed in C-CSE. Research includes fundamental spectroscopic studies of nanotube properties, including near-IR Raman profiling.
