Paper Captures the Cover of Applied SpectroscopyAn article by Kirk Rector of the Physical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy group and Kristy L. Nowak-Lovato of the Bioscience Division (formerly of Physical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy) is featured on the cover of April 2009 edition of the journal Applied Spectroscopy. The article is entitled “Targeted SERS Nanosensors for Whole Cell pH Imagery” and details the first development of pH-sensitive Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) nanosensors that can be targeted to specific cellular pathways. The paper uses specific results to describe a general concept where these SERS nanosensors can have their sensing ligands substituted to sense other species, or their targeting ligand substituted to deliver them to other cellular pathways or locations.
