C-PCS focuses on research problems that require an integrated approach involving scientific, engineering, and modeling disciplines in physical chemistry and applied spectroscopy. We perform basic and applied research in support of our national security mission. We serve a wide range of customers including DOE, DoD, other federal agencies, and private industry.

The group studies mechanically and thermally heated materials to understand the response of explosives in accident scenarios. This false-color image and graph show a gun experiment looking at the flow-induced ignition and heating of an explosive during the first millionth of a second following the ignition trigger.

The group is very active in nanoscale research. This book was recently edited by Victor Klimov, team leader of the Softmatter Nanotechnology and Advanced Spectroscopy Team. See http://quantumdot.lanl.gov/ for more information on quantum dots and other nanoscale technologies.
